Access to water has the potential to directly impact the economic and living conditions of the urban
poor. By focusing on the equitable distribution of water in the city, the municipal corporation could
save several crores of rupees otherwise spent on public health care and cleanliness.
Access to municipal water connections to all would ensure provision of clean drinking water and a
reduction in the incidence of waterborne diseases.
