PHS’ efforts have shed light on important issues related to equitable access to water in urban areas.
Aside from big wins like the judgement on the PIL in 2015, PHS has succeeded in broadening the
scope of the right to water movement to include the right to shelter and most importantly, the right
to the city.
With regards to the fight to secure the right to the city, the Indian constitution includes the right to
free movement within the territory of India as a fundamental right. Therefore, by countering the
politicised sons of soil argument, PHS is also strengthening democratic processes in the country.
